Chasing the Sky

Hi there -

Titling this blog "Chasing the Sky" was a bit strange of me. When I first typed it out and reread it, I realized it didn't really make a lot of sense. How can you chase the sky? It's always above your head, so it's everywhere you go. Thus, if you set out to do so, where in the world would you go? What direction would you start running to? It's only when a storm like the one I saw today is moving through the sky that you actually have something to chase after. It got me thinking about negative thoughts. Somehow, we always seem to focus on the negative - chase it, even. But negativity is only temporary. Like storm clouds: it comes, and it goes. But we feel pulled or drawn to it - maybe because it just offers some sort of direction. But there's something way more vast and infinite above it - above those storm clouds: the sky. Whatever vast and infinite that the sky holds, or could represent in this analogy - hope, positivity, light, faith - it never goes away. It can just be covered for a while. Because it seems like we never know where to find these sort of positive things, when really it's always right there, everywhere we go. Always above our heads. Thus, looking for it is much like chasing the sky. So maybe the key sometimes to finding happiness, hope, light, faith, ect, is not looking for it all, but rather simply dwelling under it - in its midst.

Okay, I'm done being all deep and what not. :) So I went chasing the storm today, trying to photograph it as it was rolling in. People passing me on the road that ran along where I was were gaping out their windows at me, haha... it's like they were thinking "Oh God, I don't know what to do - I'm witnessing a psycho!" ;) I haven't taken very many pictures since Erika's wedding, so it felt great to be out behind my camera lens again. It was kind of crazy though - the sun was behind me, lighting up the grass a really bright yellow, and then there were the navy clouds, stirring up power. Gave it a very cool effect.

My blood test results came back last week, and turns out I'm in the early stages of mono, which explains why I've been feeling like "crap on toast" and insanely tired all of the time. I know what you're thinking! "Who's Erin been kissing?!" And actually, the guy I'm dating is 5 hours away from me, which makes the whole lip locking thing a bit difficult. Must have gotten it some other way! Ha :) Plus, I've had mono before, and once you have it one time, it stays in your system your whole life, which gives it the ability to reactivate itself at stressful times or whenever it feels like it and such. So now I'm taking some huge vitamin horse pills and sleeping whenever I can for while!

I hope you enjoy the pictures - I really like them! I think I'm going to try and coax my friends into letting me take portraits of them sometime soon. I have some ideas. ;D Happy 4th weekend ya'll!

The Rhythm of Nature

"In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect."
-Alice Walker

This weekend has flown by. Some exciting news: There is a possibility that I might get to study abroad next summer, if we can afford it!! I really want to study literature and (of course) photography, and maybe some language in a foreign place! I would absolutely, utterly, indubitably love it. I am so excited to start looking at programs and possible scholarships. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Please!

Since I've been posting some portraits, I decided to switch to some subjects I've captured in nature. In searching for pictures related to nature, I have concluded that I have way too many! So these are just a handful out of the bunch.

I feel a little bit more comfortable taking pictures of nature rather than people, simply because nature isn't afraid of the camera and it'll hold still for me! Ha :) But now that I've had a lot more experience with taking pictures of people, I have to say I love to capture both nature and people. People show so much raw, beautiful emotion - and most of the time, they're not even aware that it's written all over their face! However, nature can be quite loud with emotion as well. It's a pretty cool thing to witness.

So anyway, I'm going to stop rambling now and start my literature paper on the similarities between the Israelites of "New Jerusalem" and the Puritans of the "New World." Hooray for the Old Testament! ;D

Vision in White

Hello Hello!

Not too much going on... thank goodness! Had a crazy week at work with the children (I'm a kids counselor - and loving it) , and now trying to get all of my online class work done. Seeing the doctor Monday morning, not feeling too well. To be honest, I really just want some jamba juice!! Ha :)

I decided to post a new blog today because all these exciting, new engagements on facebook are reminding me of being the photographer for Erika Coleman's (now Erika Stroud) wedding, and all the fun I had doing to job! So here are a few samples of the two bridal portrait sessions I did for her. Mrs. Stroud is beautiful, to be modest. :)

Contact me if you'd like some/any kind of portraits done!! I would love to be the one behind the lens for you. Ya'll have a fantastic day.

Don't Wait For the Sky to Clear

Hey there!

I decided to get a blog, in hopes of sharing some of my pictures! I just finished writing an 8 page research paper for my online literature class... it's not due until next Friday. Shh! Don't tell! I'm an over-acheiver! Ha :) - Nah, I just wanted to get it out of the way. So here I am, trying out a blog before I get to dreaming and sleeping and all that jazz. Getting up in the morning to work out and go to yoga class! I always really despise yoga while I'm in the class, but afterwards, I feel amazing! Maybe I'll learn to like it...

Anyway. Photography is my second passion (taking care of people being my first) and if I weren't going to be a nurse, I would have been an artsy photography major. :) I love to capture God's beauty in every possible way, and I love to witness it all from behind my lense. I am most happiest when I can capture moments and scenes naturally - exactly as they are. No excessive posing or crazy photoshop attached.

I have just decided that today's post is Portrait Day! Below are some portraits of beautiful people I've gotten the opportunity to capture in the past. Enjoy!
